PRESS RELEASE 11th November 2021:
Kanisa Regulated Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (Kanisa SACCO) will commemorate the 40th Anniversary since its establishment on 4th December 2021 at the Desmond Tutu Conference Centre in Westlands, Nairobi. The membership-based financial institution started by the staff of the All-Africa Conference of Churches was formally registered by the Ministry of Cooperative Development on 10th August 1981. Earlier this year the SACCO came under supervision of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).
“2021 is a special year when we celebrate our shared prosperity. It is a time for us to commemorate the forty years of our existence while building a sense of pride, ownership, and patronage among members to spur future growth,” says the Vice Chairperson of the SACCO, Nelson Opany.
From starting with 18 members in 1981, the SACCO’s current membership is over 3,300 drawn from tens of organizations spanning across different sectors of business and society. With a share capital of 23.5 million, core capital of 37.4 million, member deposits of 401.9 million and total assets of 490 million, the SACCO is well funded to meet the needs of its members. Kanisa SACCO’s current loan portfolio is 348.4 million which is a sign of how great its investment in the progress of its members is.
The Chairperson of the SACCO, Anne Kioi notes that, “Over the last four decades, Kanisa SACCO has grown in membership, financial strength, and its impact in supporting the achievement of the dreams of its members across different spheres of society. We have continued to build financially empowered individuals who support themselves, their families, and their community to achieve their goals.”
In attendance at the celebrations will be members, current and former directors and staff, media, and other invited guests. It will be an evening of lots of fun with food, music, speeches, recognitions, and awards lined up in the programme. The event will also be streamed live on the Kanisa SACCO Facebook page.
“This 40-year growth journey has been made possible by the efforts, dedication, and sacrifice of all the subsequent leaders and staff who committed their time, skills and even resources to govern and grow the Society. The members too, have been steadfast in patronizing the SACCO by making it part of their success journey. This faith and trust is what fuels the Society’s progress. We want to celebrate them,” affirms Godfrey Mwangi, the Chief Executive Officer.
